Summer

By Jennifer Snook, Director of Children’s Ministries

Summer is the season where routines change a bit, time slows down for some, and the days are longer and warmer. The season is often a favorite for families because they take time to reconnect and make memories.

All too soon the rush of school mornings begins, and while some long for the schedule and the routine, some of us long for the pace of summer. Pacing is always healthy for us. One way to ensure our spiritual pace is to guard some time each day to connect with God in his Word and in prayer. Some people enjoy listening to inspiring music or completing a Bible study or devotional.

Whatever way God has wired you to connect with the Holy, our prayer in the children’s ministry area at Grace is that you stay connected. Messy Church is one offering that allows families to do just that. Come to worship together and engage with one another where Jesus is the center of it all. Please pray about attending this once-a-month worship service and inviting a family who could benefit from some community and connection.

As a church, let us come together and pray for these families to have all the tools they need to “raise up their children in the way of the Lord, so when they are old they will not part from it. (Proverbs 22:6).”  Perhaps you are a person who could model this proverb for another family. Pray about how you could participate in this wonderful and precious ministry at Grace.\

Invitation to John Bible Study

bible studyAre you interested in an in-depth Bible Study?  This fall Pastor Catherine Neelly Burton invites you to join her for “Invitation to John.”  This is a 12-week course through the Gospel of John.  It is part of the Disciple Curriculum and is similar to the “Invitation to Psalms” that was offered in 2016.  It is a study that emphasizes knowledge and faith formation.

Participants who engage in this study gain knowledge and confidence about the Bible. This Bible study requires a high commitment and won’t be for everyone.  The commitment is a weekly class of one hour and fifteen minutes and a couple of hours of homework a week.  It is fine to miss a class on occasion, but you need to make at least 75% of the classes.

Materials for the class are a study Bible and study guide. The guides may be purchased at Grace for $15, and you may also buy a study Bible from Grace for $25, or you may use one you already have.  A kindle version of the book is available through Amazon.

The classes meet on Tuesdays at 10 am or Wednesdays at 6 pm.  Classes begin the week of August 26 with an overview session. Look for more information on a bulletin board at church, in Grace this Week, or by calling Catherine, 684-5215. Childcare is available for class upon request.
