Sunday Morning Preaching Schedule for April 2017

April 2

On this fifth Sunday of Lent, we are led in worship by members of the Grace worship team. This team worked with Catherine in studying scripture that was used in worship on the previous three Sundays. On this day we again hear the stories of the Feeding of the 5000, the Woman at the Well, and the Blind Man Receiving Sight, but we’ll hear these stories in new ways. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper at both services.

April 9

This is Palm Sunday. We worship and remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, and we look toward Holy Week. Amy Baumgartner preaches this day.

April 16

This is Easter Sunday. We celebrate the resurrection and give thanks to God for the new life we know in Christ. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper at both services. Catherine Neelly Burton preaches, and our band and choir are joined by brass instruments.

April 23

On this second Sunday of Easter, we look at the story of Jesus’ resurrection appearance to the disciples in John 20.  This is sometimes referred to as the story of ‘Doubting Thomas.’  Catherine Neelly Burton preaches.

April 30

On the third Sunday of Easter, we look at Jesus’ resurrection appearance in John 24, often called the ‘Road to Emmaus.’  We celebrate ‘Bridge Sunday’ in both services, marking milestones in the lives of young people in our congregation. Catherine Neelly Burton preaches.

This ministry encompasses different aspects of life at Grace including: a book group, fellowship events, service, and retreats.  Capri Zimmerman is working with Catherine Neelly Burton to get this started and would love to hear from you if you’re interested.  Email her at prizslp@gmail.com.

Upcoming Events and Dates are:

  • Book Group – 4th Tuesday of the Month – March – June – 7 pm at Grace

The group reads For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards by Jen Hatmaker.  The book is broken in to four sections, and the group meets four times. The first gathering is Tuesday, March 28, at 7pm at Grace.  Get a copy of the book and read the first section before the first gathering.

  • April 1 – Craft and Coffee at Grace – 10 am in the Parlor – $10 cost

Chris Alexander leads us in making spring wreaths. Enjoy crafts, conversations, coffee, and snacks.  Signups are needed, and there is a list on the women’s ministry board in the church narthex, or contact Catherine Neelly Burton, Catherine@mygpc.org.

  • April 28-29 – Westminster Woods Women’s Retreat

Westminster Woods Camp is holding a women’s retreat April 28-29.  You may go for both days or just Saturday. Pick up information on the women’s ministry bulletin board in the church narthex area or contact Capri Zimmerman, prizslp@gmail.com. Registration is on your own, not as a group, but we can car pool.

Children’s Ministry: March 23, 2017

Palm Sunday is April 9, and the Children’s Ministry Department invites all Grace Children to participate in the palm processional.

Even if your family worships at the 9 am service, we hope that you will stick around for the processional at 11 am. Those interested should meet in the Narthex at 10:45 am to receive your palm and get lined up. Children are dismissed to their parents after the processional is over, and any parent who would like to process with their child is more than welcome to do so.

We’ve received “New Life” photos from the Lenten paper chain project and posted the photos on the Grace Facebook page. Make sure to check out the photos our Grace kids have taken and be inspired by the new life all around you.

We are in the middle of the Lenten journey and halfway to the cross of Easter.

Where has your Lenten journey taken you?

My prayer is that this season gives you the opportunity to connect deeply to your family and provide ways for you to be creative together and notice one another. Being creative can simply be sitting together and noticing the beauty right outside the living room window.

Did you know that recent research shows that kids who are noticed by the people who love them display more self-confidence, and have less anxiety than kids who are praised by people who love them?  As you connect with your kids in the days to come, take stock of what happens when you notice a particular expression on your children’s  face.  How would they respond if you said something like, “Look at the way you run. I notice that you laugh a lot when you are having fun.”

May new life surprise you this Easter and may you be filled with hope and joy around every turn of the journey.
