Peace and Global Witness Offering: October 6

On Sunday, October 6, we celebrate World Communion Sunday.  Along with siblings in faith around the globe we share the Lord’s Supper in worship. We also receive the Peace and Global Witness Offering.  This offering is one of the PCUSA offerings we receive every year. Fifty percent of the received offering goes to the national church for peacemaking efforts around the globe. Twenty-five percent goes to the Presbytery of Southern Kansas for peacemaking efforts in the region. The Grace Mission Distribution Team determines how to use the remaining 25%.

This year the Mission Distribution Team designates our percentage for the Center for Combating Human Trafficking at Wichita State University.

Excavation Station

On Sunday, September 8, we unveiled the Excavation Station Sunday School Room.  For many years Room 206 was known as the Windjammer Room, and now it has new occupants and a new name.

A year ago we began to look closely at safety and security of our Sunday morning classes.  For many years older elementary children met for Sunday School in the Tower Room. It was decorated as a medieval tower and very fun. It was however, not the safest as there was no way out in a fire. The class that met up there began to meet in another second-floor room while a plan was made.

Pastor Jennifer Snook recruited woodworkers and artists to help turn Room 206 into an Indiana Jones type room for our children.  Throughout the spring and summer, construction, painting, and artifact acquisition took place. Now it’s ready for study, fellowship, and faith development. Stop by and visit!

Deep Roots Dedication and Open House for JLL Renovations: September 29

Deep Roots

One year ago we launched our Deep Roots Capital Campaign. In the first 12 months we shared $30,000 with community partners ($7500 each to Hyde Elementary, Adams Elementary, Robinson Middle School, and the International Rescue Committee.)  In addition, we underwent major renovations to Jacob’s Learning Ladder.

We want to celebrate this first year of the Deep Roots Campaign with a dedication of the JLL work and an Open House. We do this on Sunday, September 29.  On that day we dedicate these renovated spaces to God in worship, and we invite you to tour JLL.

Morning Worship

Bus Tickets and Morning Worship: September 13

Each month Grace distributes bus tickets to people in our community.  This happens on the 15th of the month, or if the 15th is on a weekend we meet the Friday before.  Volunteers and those receiving tickets begin to gather around 6:30 am in the Grace Alcove. Guests are greeted with smiles, coffee, water, and a place to sit. Tickets are distributed at 7:50 am.

We can always use volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and ticket distribution.  Want to help?  Contact Kirk Anderson, kirk@mygpc.org or 684-5215.

Yellow Bag Sundays

September Yellow Bag Sundays

Each month on the first Sunday you’re encouraged to take home a re-usable yellow grocery bag,

put some non-perishable items in it, and bring it back the next week, or soon thereafter.  For many years we sent food to Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church.  Mt. Vernon closed in July and their building was purchased by a Four Square Gospel Church that hopes to keep the food pantry going.  In September our offering goes to this ministry.  All non-perishable groceries are welcome.  Consider bringing cereal or toilet paper.
